Nestled on the bustling Anaheim Street in Long Beach, Pho 881 Restaurant serves up an authentic Vietnamese dining experience that’s a genuine delight for pho enthusiasts and newcomers alike. This mom-and-pop eatery may greet you with modest surroundings—a simple dining area with minimalist decor and a straightforward paper menu—but what truly shines here is the exceptional quality and soul in every bowl.
Specializing in traditional Vietnamese cuisine, Pho 881 boasts a diverse menu that highlights the rich flavors and textures synonymous with Vietnamese cooking. Fans of classic noodle soups will be drawn to their famous selections such as Phở Tái (Rare Steak Pho), Phở Gân (Soft Tendon Pho), and the hearty Phở Tái, Chin (Rare Steak and Brisket), each served steaming hot with a clear, fragrant broth delicately infused with fresh Thai basil, and various sides like crisp bean sprouts and lime to customize every spoonful.
Beyond pho, diners can indulge in vibrant dishes such as the Bún Tôm Thịt Nướng Chả Giò—a colorful bowl of vermicelli noodles topped with grilled pork, succulent shrimp, crispy egg rolls, and fresh herbs, finished with crunchy roasted peanuts and a tangy house fish sauce dressing that dances on the palate. The authentic Cơm Gà Hainam offers tender poached chicken served with fragrant jasmine rice and homemade ginger sauce—a comforting choice that whispers of home-cooked warmth.

Meanwhile, patrons appreciate the generous portions and fair pricing, noting that the $12 bowls of pho come in sizes that satisfy without overwhelming, positioning Pho 881 as an excellent value compared to pricier spots in neighboring cities. The broth’s clarity and fresh herbal notes coupled with the tender cuts of meat transport diners on a sensory journey into the heart of Vietnamese culinary tradition.
While some have mentioned minor quirks in the dining space, such as shared parking and simple decor, these small details fade in the glow of genuinely satisfying meals and memorable flavors. Pho 881’s straightforward charm and heartfelt cooking make it a standout destination for anyone seeking an honest, flavorful bowl of pho and Vietnamese fare in Long Beach.
If you’re craving a deeply authentic taste of Vietnam without the fuss but with plenty of warmth and soul, Pho 881 Restaurant is a welcoming spot worth visiting—where every spoonful tells a story and every dish feels like a comforting embrace.
This is my first time trying this Vietnamese restaurant. Located off the busy Anaheim Street. Parking is available, but it's shared with others. Mom and Pops operated. Nothing fancy, just a simple dining area with minimal decor. Even the menu is just a simple printed paper menu. I ordered the Oxtail Pho. The bowl came out piping hot! Decent size bowl. The broth is clear, loaded with cilantro, white onions, and green onions. You can definitely smell the fresh herbs and all the spices. Great balance, nothing overpowering. First slurp, I was in heaven. The broth is rich but complex. You can definitely taste the star anise and cinnamon, cloves, and cardamom. Not too sweet, with a hint of fattiness from the oxtail. The noodles are perfectly cooked. They only give you two decent size oxtails, and I wish that they cooked it a little bit longer. Minus 1 STAR . The fresh herb condiments are fresh and generous. I wish it's limes intead of lemons. Also, they don't have Sriracha but they have chili oil. Overall, it's a great quality pho, authentic tasting. I didn't have to add anything besides the squeeze lemon and the fresh herbs. Will be coming back for sure. Price: $15 + tip.
In my 40 years of living in the long beach area, many pho places have come and gone. When I really want pho I would usually go to little Saigon to the source. Pho 881 is definitely in my opinion the best pho in long Beach. I used to go to pho hong phat/long before but it just isn't as good when it was pho hong long. After trying pho 881 for the first time today, I highly recommend this place if you don't want to drive to little Saigon. I ordered the pho dac biet and was delicious. Broth was nice and clean. Very flavorful and a generous amount of noodles. Only issue I have is with the noodles being a bit mushy.
I went and asked for miso soup, I need to learn my soups and where they come from. I was respectfully educated and I appreciate it. I also felt like my uncle was scolding me but in a good way. I don't know if he is the owner but the man at the counter said "you are sick, you don't feel good, you need chicken soup you know that". And i appreciate him for that. I got chicken pho, and it's absolutely delicious (currently eating as I write this review).
Pho is flavorful. A legitimate pho place and a place to return to when in the area. Portion to menu pricing is reasonable. Here, an order of small Special Pho is $12.00 compared to Monterey Park or Alhambra area at $15. Service and atmosphere is atypical of a small business pho restaurant. Not a lot of frills. Just a reasonably clean place for dining. Overall a good meal and service.
Had the Pho w/ meats, delicious. Friendly worker. Wall had water leaking down and wall was greenish. Didn't sit too close to it. Still has xmas decor up, Just ate and left. Lol But the food was very good
Loved this pho place! Such excellent food, service and they’re open early which is nice to avoid lunch rush times. We got our food within 5 minutes of ordering eating around 10am. Ordered the small tendon pho and was pleasantly impressed of how many pieces of tendons were included! Spring rolls were fresh and went well with the warm peanut sauce. Thai milk tea was delicious!! Thanks for the excellent experience, will be back!
The pho was tasteful along with the garden rolls. Although the outside may have been a bit tainted by old graffiti, dont let that stop you from the quality of the meal and cost of the bowls. The serving was a smaller size bowl than expected for a large, and the flavor wasn't bold that would make it stand out from what I can compare to. The host was very nice. The peanut sauce was a little too liquidy. The pho with noodles only, would be the only one I would not recommend, because no taste, and extremely bland. The decor is a bit shabby, but again not what you come for, but the bowls of pho. Id recommend changing the menu to look better and add a little flair with some viet soft music. Other than that we may come back if were ever in the area.
